Ok I don't really own a Gretsch guitar and haven't even actually played one before.. (I would definitely love to, though, and I am a fan
of Brian Setzer who seems to exclusively endorse Gretsch guitars.. Hopefully that counts for something!) These were a couple of the most
beautiful, quality pictures that I found online at Gretsch's Website. If
you're looking for some high quality guitar wallpaper I would definitely recommend checking out their site. So until I take some photos of my own guitars
(part of which will be figuring out how to take such beautiful photos of a guitar), I think I'll
be sticking with these!
I've been a student of guitar for about five years now and love playing. I started out as self-taught using the various
resources I could find online then decided to sign up for some private lessons three years ago to add some guided direction to my playing.
I'm very glad I did sign up for the lessons as it has been an immense help in improving my playing and has given me exposure to styles of
of music that I otherwise wouldn't likely have pursued. Of course, inherent in all of this is that I have a great teacher!
It occurred to me after writing the description of my beginnings in learning guitar that I did have more help than the internet getting started. The man big Dave
gave me lots of help and guidance in figuring out how to approach learning the instrument! I'm pretty sure I would have had a much harder time figuring out how to get started
without his help!
I thought I'd add some recordings of some more popular songs that are easier to recognize. It's always fun (and easier than you might think!)
to play some of the more popular music out there so I'll likely keep adding to this section!

(New!) James Blunt - You're Beautiful - This one's also dedicated to a particularly
special someone ;-) This is the whole song and I tried to get as close to the original as I could using all guitar (with one drum track!).

The Fray - How to Save a Life - This one's dedicated to someone special ;-) - there's a little fingerstyle part
(I used fingerstle at least) at the beginning, then with a capo on the third fret the only chords you need are G, D, Em, and C! I think the fingerstyle tone came out
pretty good but I still have a little homework to do on how to get good rhythm tone. I recorded and combined five separate rhythm tracks on this one.. Maybe I need to try it
acoustic!

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters Intro

Nine Inch Nails - Hurt

Seether - Broken Intro & Verse (Recorded on my classical guitar... for those curious the chorus
chords are just C, Em, and D - pretty easy!)

This is a song I learned as part of my gutiar lessons while working fingerstyle technique. The song is called "Petite Etude" and
I don't remember who it was orignally recorded by but I'll post it when I do remember! This actually only about 2/3 of the song - I'm still working on memorizing the rest again
and getting it up to speed! -- It took a little while but here's the Full Version! Still need to smooth out a few parts which involve
some real Fingerstyle gymnastics but there's definitely been a lot of progress since the last version.
I also learned this song as part of my fingerstyle lessons. The is called"If" by the
band Bread. I actually worked on this a couple of years ago - I recorded the background track first then recorded the lead guitar on top of it.
My current progress on a piece called the "Echo Etude"
It was actually performed by Yngwie Malmsteen on one of his instructional videos. His recording of this piece amazing! Mine is still very much a
work in progress. You'll have to forgive the end with the high pitched bending... I need to re-record this one with a less painful tone!
(New!) Ok I finally learned the rest of the song and this time tried to use a fuller tone.. I actually recorded two versions this time
a slower version, Echo Etude Slow, and a faster version, Echo Etude Fast
version. I'd be interested to hear opinions on which you think sounds better!
This is a Jazzy arrangment of Little Girl Blue that I worked on with some strong support
from my teacher. I was actually able to get it down so that I could play it much more smoothly than on this recording but never re-recorded it.. I've been playing it more again
lately so maybe I'll have a better version soon!
Here's a really short little blues lick in the style of Robert Johnson that I've had a particular liking for lately. It's right out of one
of my (many many) guitar magazines. I didn't spend a whole lot of time refining it - just a quick recording - so you'll have to forgive the roughness!
